Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Approximately 15 years ago, the idea of having a community Thanksgiving Dinner was brought to fruition under the guidance of Byron and Janie Sparkman.  Byron and Janie had participated in a similar community effort in the church they had attended before making their home in Monette.  They felt the Monette community would greatly benefit and it has been proven to be a very worthwhile event!  The dinner is held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  Members volunteer to bake 8 - 10 turkeys and 7 - 8 hams, prepare dressing and desserts.  They come together early that morning to finish preparing vegetables and other dishes then begin filling take-out trays to be delivered to shut-ins and businesses.  Members of the community are invited to come partake of the meal at noon.  Even though there is much work to be done to feed the community, it is very rewarding!

Mission Outreach

For the past few years, members of the Monette Church of Christ and members of the Leachville Church of Christ have joined together to prepare and serve Christmas Eve dinner to residents of Mission Outreach in Paragould, Arkansas.  A delicious dinner of baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, dinner rolls and a variety of desserts are provided to the residents.  A bonus of donated gifts are provided to the residents as well!

Third Sunday Singing

The third Sunday evening services of each month is set aside to sing praises to God along with a small devotional.  This time of special worship is time of learning new songs, singing cherished old songs and fellowship with one another.  After services, a celebration of those having birthdays that month is enjoyed by all with finger foods and desserts!

Fifth Sunday Potluck

Occasionally, a month will have five Sundays.  When this happens, it is a signal for our congregation to have a potluck after morning services!!  Many in our congregation have proven to be excellent cooks and this is the day to enjoy those talents.  After the potluck dinner, a short service is held in the auditorium with singing, prayer and a devotional.  Evening services are cancelled.

"The Story"

Beginning on January 4th of 2012, the congregation will be participating in the study of "The Story".  This curriculum is a 31-week study of the entire Bible.  "The Story" is written in story-like fashion, making the Bible much easier to understand.  Teachers will provide a fun-filled lesson to their classes during study time and then the minister will provide a sermon that enhances what was taught in class!  We invite all of you to attend this new adventure!
