A few years later, the building was remodeled. Brother Melvin Elliott was the regular preacher at that time. He did much of the work on the remodeling and all of the electrical wiring.
In 1965, the congregation on Poplar Ridge decided to join the Monette congregation. This took place on Easter Sunday, April 11, 1965. Brother Terry McGiffin was the minister here at that time. The property of the Poplar Ridge church was sold to Woodrow McFarlin and the money was placed in the building fund of the Monette church of Christ. The congregation on Poplar Ridge had been existence since 1921. As the economic situation changed and more and more people moved away, it became evident that a consolidation was the best move for the few members who were left there.
This brings the third stage of the church in Monette. In the early part of 1973, the elders decided to initiate a building fund. It was determined that the first Sunday contribution of every month would be set aside for a new building. The building fund was started on March 4, 1973. On March 3, 1974 a special contribution was taken for the building. On that day, members of the Monette church of Christ contributed and pledged $15,548. On October 13, 1975 the new auditorium was finally begun!
(This history was researched and written by Mrs. Edna Ruebush, the daughter of Kirb Ruebush (a founding member). Mrs. Ruebush was a faithful, hardworking member of the church of Christ and is very loved and missed. This account was read at the dedication of the current church building on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1976)
The current building includes an auditorium with a balcony, baptistery, preacher's office, fellowship hall with kitchen, nine classrooms, teacher workroom, and six restrooms.
